Shabbat Girl

Once again, a few days late in posting but Friday Carly was Shabbat Girl at school. All week she was saying that she wanted to bring blueberry muffins to her class, so Thursday night, I baked 30-something mini-blueberry muffins that turned out really good. And we have to bring a book to read and donate to the class. So we went to Barnes & Noble and Carly immediately picked out "Where the Wild Things Are". We don't even have that book but she made the selection all by herself.



So what does it mean to be Shabbat Girl? Besides, the parents supplying the snack, all the "Shabbat kids" from the 4 classes at school get to sit on the Bima next to the person leading the Shabbat service for the school. This week is was Cantor Alison who's also in our Havurah. So it was kind of special that Alison was there, singing with the kids and was able to talk to Carly by name, ask her what songs she wanted to sing, etc.



Having not seen the nursery school Shabbat before, it was beyond cute. Besides, singing the songs and the kids getting all into it, at the end they open the Ark. The Shabbat Kids have the honor of opening it and they totally understand how special that is. Then they touch the Torahs, including covering their eyes. It's actually quite moving to see her and all the kids really into it.




After the service, we went into the classroom where we gave the kids their snacks and read the story. All the kids sing the prayers, help light the candles, put money in the Tzedakah box. It's just so darn cute.





After the Shabbat snack, Gregg and I went out into the play yard with the kids and Carly was happy to show off how she climbs on the monkey bars. Carly, Charlotte and Jade were quite the little climbers, especially Jade who was just climbing and flipping over the bars.




Overall, very fun experience. I'm realizing how grown up Carly is getting. How she knows all the songs at school and sings them all the time. Wow, it's amazing to be 3 years old.
