Dreamy

I find Jimmy Smits dreamy. There are few celebrities in this world that I think are beautiful and he’s one of them. Yes, G knows about it and is fine. He’s got his as well. I saw this photo in the current Emmy magazine and I think it’s just gorgeous. Had to share.
It's raining...
I'm happy. (even with the continuing migraine)
Yeah, I'm still here
We went to San Diego last weekend for some actual (are you sitting down?) family time. We went to
Legoland on Friday and
Sea World on Saturday. We LOVED
Legoland and went on pretty much every ride. All the Lego creations are beyond amazing. I took something like 400 photos. No, I won't bore you all with them but I do need to upload some highlights. Sea World was just as fun. C loved the dolphin show and
Shamu. It was just so nice to get away for a couple of day and do the family thing. It had been almost 3 years since we've gone away as a family, for fun. We need to do more of that.
G is in Atlanta working on the BET Hip Hop Awards. I know you'll all be tuning in next week, whenever it's on.
Fo shizzle.
I've taken two golf lessons and according to my teacher, I'm doing really well. I'm really enjoying it.
I've been walking/hiking with some girlfriends in the grand attempt to get into a little bit of shape and perhaps lose a few ounces. There's a 3.5 mile trail about 1 mile from my house and it's in the Santa Monica Mountains so that it's protected land and can't be built on. There are some tough parts and I'm definitely huffing and puffing. I'm so darn out of shape it's pathetic.
I'm tired of migraines. I've had way too many lately. Headaches are a regular
occurrence but the migraines are not making me happy.
I've been doing stupid projects like removing old photos from their horrible magnetic albums. You know the kind. The albums where you peel the plastic and it's got adhesive to hold the pictures in place. Well, they eat away at the photos and eventually discolor and disintegrate them. So, while catching up on TV, I've pulled and put into new, happy, acid-free albums photos from my backpack trip to Europe in 1989, my first trip to Australia in 1985 and two albums with a few summers worth of pics from summer camp. It was great to look at some of those photos and brought back some fun memories, especially the camp ones. Without a doubt, summer camp at Calamigos was some of the best times of my life. I started as a camper and grew up there and was a counselor for 5 years. I got a little nostalgic for three of my favorite campers. I googled them and I found them all. I'm not sure if that's good or I should be a little scared that it was so easy to find them but it was nice to see them all grown up. I emailed one of them so we'll see if he responds on behalf of himself and his sister. They used to live in LA and now live in Atlanta. The other is a doctor and living in Washington. I need to email him as well. I don't know why I feel nervous that maybe they won't remember me. That would be so sad but honestly, I don't think that would happen. I'm in touch with a few people from camp still but it would be nice to reconnect with these three. I just adored all of them.
One of my dearest friends is having a baby in 10 days. We're having a little lunch/baby shower for her tomorrow. I was hoping to make her a batch of chocolate chip cookies (she seems to be obsessed with mine for some reason) but oops, dont' have enough chips. Guess I'll be making a quick stop at the market tomorrow after drop off so I can whip them up before the lunch. And since she has this general philosophy that it's not a party unless there are
M&M's, I ordered personalized M&M's that say "Baby Girl?" and "Baby Boy?" on light blue and pink and gr
een M&M's since her last name is Green. Of course, I happen to know the sex of the baby but I can't give any of that away. Even her DH doesn't know. I've got some pressies up my sleeve for when Baby G arrives. I'm very excited for her.
Okay, gotta go finish decorating the above mentioned M&M jar and then get some sleep. Maybe this headache will go away. What a concept.
Oh yeah and it's finally hockey season again.
Kings still stink. I guess that's our lot in life this year... to root for the imploding teams. Between the Kings,
Chicago Cubs debacle and the
Iowa Hawkeyes, we're not having good sports karma around here. But hey, these are awesome. Needless to say, I'll be ordering
these in the next few days.

FORE!
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m pretty much athletically challenged. Maybe it’s because I’m Jewish (look up “Great Jews in Sports History” and you’ll see a small pamphlet). Maybe it’s because I have musical ability and, when I was a kid, my parents steered me towards piano and flute. I’m forever grateful for that since I have a great love for music and still play my flute, as most of you already know. But growing up, sports, physical fitness, athletics were not my forte. I learned to ski before I turned 30, a personal goal of mine. I’m not very good and I enjoy it but I also haven’t done it in almost 5 years thanks to being pregnant and subsequent child. One of the things I’ve always wanted to do was learn to play tennis or golf. So today, I took my first golf lesson.
Backstory. G is a good, avid golfer. He plays as often as possible. I go on scrapbooking weekends. He goes on golf weekends. Okay, he goes once a year to play for 4 days and I go away a few weekends a year but we pretty much balance out on our total of play days. Anyway, he’s tried to teach me here and there but it’s been in weird circumstances so it really wasn’t conducive to trying to learn anything. Back in August, before we left for Las Vegas, he took me out to the driving range. Showed me how to hold the club, position, basically what to do and I started to whack away at the ball. I didn’t do great but one of the few times I hit the ball correctly, it was fun. I really enjoyed it!
We went to the golf store just to see how much clubs cost and what’s out there for women since obviously G would have no idea about that. I played around with putters and found one that I liked. We came home and researched clubs online and G found a nice set for me. So I have my own set of clubs (pink!)

and he got me the putter as well.

Don’t know anything about why I like this one but hey, I could hit the ball easily in the store with it. Others weren’t as easy so that was my criteria. In fact, the day my clubs arrived, we had gone out to the driving range that morning. (I was using G’s clubs) We went again that night so I could try mine.
So we get busy with work, bla bla bla and finally we have time to go back to the driving range last week. I was doing ok. I hit plenty of grounders. Okay, I know it’s a baseball term but give me a break. I’m a beginner. I’ll get that nomenclature down eventually. In fact, on my last swing, one of the other instructors just happened to be watching me and he said that he’s taught plenty of women who don’t have as nice a swing. Obviously, he could tell that I was a beginner (I would hope so anyway) but that was very nice to hear especially when I haven’t had a formal lesson yet.
So dissolve to this morning. We get there a little early so I’m hitting a few practice balls before my lesson. I meet my instructor, Chris. She’s a nice lady, former LPGA tour pro. She asked me to show her how I grip the club and swing. G had given me some good basics. My right hand grip was “perfect” and only a very slight adjustment to my left hand and I was good. My stance was pretty good too. Right away she showed me something about my swing (that’s why she’s the instructor and the pro) and almost immediately my swing got better. I was really pleased with myself. I know it’ll take a million more balls at the driving range before I’m ready for step two but I was really excited about today. I signed up for a series of 6 lessons and I’d like to keep up with it. It’s been really fun so far.
These pictures are from August. No shots from today which is perfectly ok. And anyone out there who actually plays will probably be laughing their asses off at my "fine form". Hey, I'm learning. If I take some pictures at the end of these six lessons, let's see if I look any better. Hey, let's hope so is all I can say.
