2 Scarlet Lime Scrapbooking kits: February and March main kits
Last week was C's school's Purim Carnival. We volunteered to help. I helped with the set up and then did what I do best, took pictures. The kids had such a great time and the carnival was so terrific. They had pie eating contests where a chocolate coin (gelt) was buried in whipped cream and they had to find it. That was quite popular. Knocking Haman's hat off a ledge. Dunk Haman - okay it was a doll and you hit the target to dump him in water. Digging in the Negev for treasure. And a few more. Plus the requisite bouncies, face painting and snacks of cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones.
What was terrific was that everyone dressed up, including all the teachers. C's TK class is hooked up with the 5th graders as their "reading buddies". They meet every week and the 5th graders read or help with whatever activity of the day is. C is matched up with a girl, also named C. My C is so enamored of C in 5th grade and she's TEN years old. That's SO cool dontcha know. It's a great role model thing for her and I know she's already looking ahead to be cool when she's in 5th grade to have a TK buddy.
Anyway, the carnival was split by grade levels. They had the TK, K and 1st graders go out for the first hour and then 2-5th grades for the second. The 5th graders hooked up with their TK'ers and helped take them around, play games, and just supervise them during the carnival. It was so stinking cute. The 5th graders did a great job and helping the younger ones play and play the games and hey, that helped the teachers too. I walked over to one of the bouncies and I saw my C chatting away with C telling her some story at a million miles a minute. It was so cute to see her interact and not realize that I was watching her.

Back when I was doing the Dog Show back in December, we were chatting at one of the meals about what movies are our guilty pleasures. You know, the ones you’ll ALWAYS stop to watch the remainder when you’re channel surfing on a Saturday afternoon. Here are some of mine, in no particular order.

This one is from the move in day in the Big Brother house. It's the only time we can get into the house because once the hamsters move in to the habitrail, it's off limits to most of us.
A big shout out to my friend Sonia who's blessed day of birth is today. Sonia is one of the funniest people I know and I think she's supermom. She writes nearly daily on her blog and it's beyond witty, she manages 4 kids and darn it she creates too (knitting, scrapping, baking, the list goes on) . We met about 18 months ago and immediately bonded. I just wish we lived closer so we could celebrate. I hope you have a fabulous birthday my fabulous friend.
I don’t know how many of you share your birthday with others. Over the course of my life, I’ve met at least 10 people that share the blessed day of March 7 as their birthday. From a friend of my parents that I met as a kid, to the captain of the football team in high school, to a cameraman who celebrated his 42nd birthday while I celebrated my 21st in Australia. My friend’s daughter was born on March 7. One of my co-workers at CBS when we worked on “Dennis MIller Live” and my former facialist. One of the Production Supervisors on “Big Brother” is also a March 7 baby. We figured that out on the “Emmy Awards” way back in 1986. Well, when this season started on “BB” and we knew we’d be in production when the blessed day of our birth passes, she told me that there are two other people on the “BB” staff with March 7 birthdays. I think I know one of them but I don’t know the other. Now seriously, what are the odds that out of about 200 people, that there would be FOUR people with the same birthday??
But wait there’s more. I pick up C and her friend E the other day after school to take them to the park. C’s Godmother D was in the car and said “Did you know that tomorrow is your Mommy’s birthday?” E piped right in and said that J (in their class) said that tomorrow is his mommy’s birthday too. So off I go to email J’s mom and sure enough, K’s birthday is March 7 too.
I don’t know what was going on in June when we were all conceived, perhaps nice weather, but March 7 is a popular day and darn it, for once, I feel like I’m in with a good crowd.
I had a really nice birthday which is actually kind of nice to say for a change. For whatever reason my birthdays of late have been a disappointment and low key. Last year, I was flat out on my bed so nothing exciting happened. This year was much nicer. As previously blogged, G and I were going to play golf, I had to volunteer in C's class, she got a fever and none of the above happened. I did go to lunch with K which was fabulous. We had yummy sushi and it was really nice for just the two of us to have some catch up time. Usually, me, K and L are hanging out which is always fabulous but you know, the one on one time is a good thing too. K and L gave me the new Stacy Julian "Picture Freedom" book which I'm looking forward to diving into. Hopefully, this will help me organize my photo life a little bit. They also gave me (which hasn't come in yet) a fantastic jewelry/charm soldering kit that we played with at CHA. That's gonna be a fun toy.
G and I went out to a nice dinner at P6. I had been there before but he hadn't so it was really nice to have an adult meal with the most important person in my life. (okay, one of the two since the other was a sickie). After we got home, I jumped in my car and drove down to Carlsbad for a scrapping weekend with the girls. I hadn't seriously scrapped since November and needed to get my mojo back. No design team assignments yet (although I know what the first projects are supposed to be, just waiting for the product to go do them) so I was able to do stuff for me. I did all pre-fab kits. I put them together, added the photos but the designs were already done. I added some of my own embellishments but I was able to knock out 25 pages. That was good for me. I also did an "All About Me" mini-album which I want to do with C for her 5th birthday in a few weeks. And I did two acrylic albums from when we went to see all the Disney Princesses at "Enchanted" at the El Capitan. It came out really cute if I say so. I started an acrylic Hanukkah album but ran out of time. We went do dinner and then I drove home. It was a nice weekend to get away.
I also got a lot of birthday cards and wishes via email and old fashioned snail mail. I pretty much always remember people's birthdays so while I hate to brag that it's my birthday, I tend to hold people up to my memory standards. I'm usually sorely disappointed. This year, however, all the people who I truly love actually remembered and remembered on my actual day. I really felt special. I'm lucky enough to have some really amazing friends. People who I speak with almost every day, people who we only communicate on birthdays and Christmas. But there are a few people that I know are dear in my heart, who I adore and who feel right back at me even if we don't don't every day (S (thanks for the shout out) and JH to name a few) I hope you know how much you mean to me. And how much ALL of you mean to me. You ALL made my birthday very special this year.
Seriously though, no crying allowed. But my kid is not happy because she's got a fever. Lovely. G and I were hoping to play golf tomorrow but I'm scheduled to volunteer in C's class, which now that she's not going to school tomorrow, I'm probably not going to class either. But I am going to lunch with my dear friend K and I'm very much looking forward to it. G and I are going to dinner which I'm also looking forward to. Wow, two adult meals in one day. And then, I'll drive down to Carlsbad to meet up with L and a few other friends and doing some much needed scrapping for the weekend. I haven't done any serious scrapping since November so I'm excited to try and get something done. I've got grand plans and certainly won't make a dent in half of it. But I can be hopeful.
The past two weeks have been very crazy. A lot going on, not enough hours in the day, juggling C coverage when there's a random hour where either G or I can't be where we're supposed to be etc. Another change going on is over at "American Idol".
For reasons too complicated to explain, they've replaced the director who's been with the show from Day 1. G and the Technical Director got through the show that particular day and the producers had to do some quick thinking as to what they were going to do on short notice. What was ultimately determined was that the TD would direct the shows until they go to the main stage with the Top 12 (which is next week) and make a determination at the end of this week's worth of shows. Chances are they'll give the series to him which is good for the TD but still a little unfortunate because the real upward progression is for the Associate Director to move up the chair to the Director position. But, the producers did give G one huge break and he'll be the Director on their big "Idol Gives Back" special in April. It's huge. A 2 1/2 hour live special and a big network opportunity. We've had some BS bad luck with not getting network approvals on certain shows so once G accomplishes this show, as we all know he'll do with flying colors, they can't throw that back that he doesn't have network directing experience (which is a hunk of you know what to begin with). It's going to open all sorts of doors for him that he so well deserves.
So I'm really proud of and excited for G and this opportunity. I know he's going to kick ass and take names and prove to people what a totally competent Director he is. So be sure to tune in and cheer when you see his name at the OPENING titles. It's going to be so darn cool.
I'm a mom to 3 beautiful girls. I work in TV Production when I have to, I prefer to stay at home. In my spare time, I scrapbook, play the flute, am a crazy LA Kings fan, and I play on the computer when I should really be sleeping.
