The world after American Idol
I'm thoroughly disgusted. Not surprised but still disguested. Never was a Taylor fan so nothing's changed now. I still maintain that once Mandisa and Chris were dumped, the best singers were gone so it's just runners up after that. I even soured on Katharine although I did my best and called in about 40 times for her. I still think both Taylor and Katharine will be trivia questions by next year. Whatever became of.
Final number was 12. All good. Used 2, saved the others for later. Relaxing. Keep thinking happy, wonderful thoughts and UP you'll go (sorry, had a Peter Pan moment)
Gregg's in NY for Tony Awards rehearsals, comes home for 2 days then goes back on Monday for 2 weeks. Ugh, I hate when he's gone for that long.
Carly is finished up 2 weeks of swim lessons. She LOVES to swim and is having a great time. So here are a few shots from the past two weeks. Loving the new camera BTW and that long lens too.

Okay, this photo isn't great since Carly is out of focus but the in action jump shot is pretty cool.

And one more shot of my rock star daughter all dolled up and ready to go to swim lessons yesterday. I love this photo.
And the magic number is...
18. Do whatever you do for good luck - cross fingers, say a prayer, rub a rabbit's foot. I'd really appreciate it.

Revisions...
It's been brought to my attention that I've left off a couple of VERY important things about me but I only had four slots so something had to be sacrificed. So here are my revisions (a/o 5/18/06 12:06A YELLOW (no one but my family will get that reference))
Another Favorite Movie:
The Parent Trap - either version, both classics (listed in my top 7 two posts below this)
Another Favorite TV Show
McLeod's Daughers - Aussie soap, awesome on WE but it hasn't been on in a few weeks. Perhaps because I'm the only person in America watching it.

Cute Carly-isms
I had to go return something at Babies R Us today. So after My Gym today (we've moved up to the Mighty Mites/big kid class), I told Carly we had to go to Babies R Us. Carly said "We can't go to Babies R Us, we have to go to Big Girls R Us". So cute. I tried to explain to her that that's why we had to return the thing at Babies R Us because she was no longer a baby. So she said several times that we had to go to "Big Girls R Us". Smart kid.
Shocking
There is now no reason to watch "American Idol" anymore this season. That's all I'm going to say.
3 Year checkup
I knew there was something else to blog about. Carly also had her 3 year check up last Friday. She didn't have to have any shots (thank goodness) since she had whatever shot she needed back when she had her flu shot last November. Anyway, she's 38 inches and weighs 35.5 pounds. 90th percentile in height and weight. The weight thing has pretty much been since day one. I guess she's a good eater which is really quite the oxymoron since she mostly eats Mac n Cheese. The real comedy is in the height. Where did she get to be so tall? (cue the music "Sunrise, Sunset") No one on either side of our families is above average and she's tall. I was always bottom 3 on the height scale growing up. Gregg had his growth spurt when he was liek 16 but he's 5'11" which is average. And yet, we have a daughter in the 90th percentile in height. Go figure. Other than that, she's a happy, healthy normal, right on target 3 year old. We'll take that considering we hadn't seen the doctor since her 2 year checkup. No doctor visits (other than the above mentioned flu shot). Pretty darn good.
Shabbat Girl
Once again, a few days late in posting but Friday Carly was Shabbat Girl at school. All week she was saying that she wanted to bring blueberry muffins to her class, so Thursday night, I baked 30-something mini-blueberry muffins that turned out really good. And we have to bring a book to read and donate to the class. So we went to Barnes & Noble and Carly immediately picked out "Where the Wild Things Are". We don't even have that book but she made the selection all by herself.

So what does it mean to be Shabbat Girl? Besides, the parents supplying the snack, all the "Shabbat kids" from the 4 classes at school get to sit on the Bima next to the person leading the Shabbat service for the school. This week is was Cantor Alison who's also in our Havurah. So it was kind of special that Alison was there, singing with the kids and was able to talk to Carly by name, ask her what songs she wanted to sing, etc.

Having not seen the nursery school Shabbat before, it was beyond cute. Besides, singing the songs and the kids getting all into it, at the end they open the Ark. The Shabbat Kids have the honor of opening it and they totally understand how special that is. Then they touch the Torahs, including covering their eyes. It's actually quite moving to see her and all the kids really into it.

After the service, we went into the classroom where we gave the kids their snacks and read the story. All the kids sing the prayers, help light the candles, put money in the Tzedakah box. It's just so darn cute.

After the Shabbat snack, Gregg and I went out into the play yard with the kids and Carly was happy to show off how she climbs on the monkey bars. Carly, Charlotte and Jade were quite the little climbers, especially Jade who was just climbing and flipping over the bars.

Overall, very fun experience. I'm realizing how grown up Carly is getting. How she knows all the songs at school and sings them all the time. Wow, it's amazing to be 3 years old.
If my head wasn't attached...
I swear, I wouldn't remember where I put it. After a hellish work week on the Emmy's last week (about 13 hours of sleep in 4 days, didn't see Carly in waking hours from Tuesday at school drop off until Saturday morning, you get the picture), I slept most of the day Saturday. DH let me sleep in until about 10:30A, I was up for awhile, didn't even make it downstairs and then took another 2 hour nap. We went to an anniversary party on Saturday night which was actually nice to dress up and be adults, even though we were both still stupidly tired. Sunday, another 3 year old's birthday party, came home and napped and had dinner at the in-laws for my FIL's birthday.
Okay the head non-attached part. So I'm thinking I'm semi-rested after getting another good 8-9 hours of sleep last night. I take Carly to My Gym which was cancelled today (babysitter told me last week but that was a long time ago) so we went to the park for almost 2 hours, then ballet in the afternoon, run a few errands. I finally get to start going through the rest of my mail from Baltimore and last week, (not sure when it all came in, it was just piled) and see a reminder notice for a 10AM mammogram appointment for THIS morning. It's now 7:50P. Had no recollection of making the appointment, which was the rescheduled date. I go to look on my Palm, and yup, there it is so I didn't even look at my week ahead on my Palm. I'm a moron. Then almost an hour later, I'm checking email and a friend mentions something to me and I realize that I completely forgot to take another medication that I'm supposed to take around 7PM. It's now 8:40P. So two complete brain freeze, shutdown, meltdowns within an hour. Usually, it's because I lose things. This is simply a case of me losing my mind. Can't wait to beg to reschedule that mammogram tomorrow. DOH!
