Society ills
So I'm at Starbucks this morning (society issue in its own right) ordering my egg nog latte. As I'm waiting, a mom comes in with her son who's about 2 1/2. He yells a little bit, not in a tantrum screaming kind of way but just in a loud voice. As a mother of a young child, I didn't think the kid was being obnoxious in any way. The next thing I heard from the Mom to the son was this "If you don't behave, there'll be no TV in the car." Wow, what can be said about that? We live in such a warped, materialistic, instant gratification isn't fast enough society that the punishment is no TV IN THE CAR?? Oy. Had to share.
Hollywood Week
It’s Hollywood Week for season 7 of “American Idol”. I’m here working on the weeding down auditions. We saw 80 contestants yesterday and there are another 80 or so today. Definitely some good singers and that was from the first half of the group yesterday. That’s about all I can tell you without having to pay $5 million and give them C as a bonus. But it’s certainly was a fun day yesterday.
How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Ours was very quiet but nice. We went to my parents house and G met us there after he landed from working the parade in NY. The food was great, as always. My mom does a mean Thanksgiving feast. And plenty of leftovers. It’s pretty much the only meal that I enjoy leftovers.
As I promised, here are a couple of the LO’s that I’ve done in the past few weeks. I don’t really have an online favorite place to post these days so here will have to do for the 3 or 4 people that occasionally stop by my little corner of the web. None of them are any great shakes but they're done.
Had to prove to myself and the few other Jewish scrappers out there that there are Judaica topics to scrap, even if the photos are 1.5 years old.
C found these extra pictures lying around and wanted to scrap them. And since she's now writing, I had her do the "journaling" on the side. She wrote "C", "Mom", "Dad", "Family". I helped with the spelling and putting the brads in and putting glue dots on the flowers but she did everything else.
Scrapbooking, Props and Being Grateful
Yeah, I know. Another week in the abyss of no blogging.
I had a lovely weekend (well, day and a half) scrapbooking with some of my girlfriends. We were in Irvine near two great scrapbook stores and it was nice to get away and not have any time limits. Well, I had to come home Sunday morning instead of dinner time but still I stayed up way too late the other two nights. I got my Hanukkah cards done, four presents (can’t mention in case they’re reading) and 7 page (5 LO’s). I’m pleased with how they came out. I’ve scanned a few and I need to tweak them and then I’ll post for viewing, if anyone is still out there. It was great to get away with my friends and get to know S better. What a cool lady! I had a great time being roomies with you!
Been working a bit and that’s a good thing with the WGA strike in its 3rd week. I worked on a Comedy Central special last week. I worked on “The Next Great American Band” this week. Next week, I work on Hollywood Week auditions for “American Idol”. I wonder if I’ll be able to spot some of the singers who could go far. Next weekend, I do the AKC Eukanuba National Championship Dog Show again. I did it last year and it was really fun. I’m looking forward to it. And then one more episode of the Band show.
I did get a different phone call about a week ago. A producer/director I work with called me to ask me a question. I’ve worked with him several times and I do my best to stay out of his way. He can be a little nutty (well, can’t we all?) so it’s just easier to only speak when spoken to and because of that, he loves me. Well, at least he likes me and calls me first when he needs an Associate Director. I’ll ride it as along as I can. Anyway, he called me (didn’t think he knew my number) and asked if I was ever interested in being a Coordinating Producer. I told him I was still trying to get this AD thing down. He responded that I’ve already mastered that which was very nice. I told him that thanks to him, I’ve been working (since he’s hired me several times this year). He went on to say that he thought I’d be great at doing all the many things needed to be a producer. I told him that it wasn’t something I was really interested in at this time but I really appreciated him thinking of me in that way. He mentioned another person we’ve worked with who’s now a full time producer and he said to let him know if I ever changed my mind. Like I said, he’s a bit nutty but this conversation was not what I expected. I will admit, I was actually quite flattered. It was a huge compliment that he thought of me as capable in that capacity. Maybe he sees me as capable and yet not threatening to him being a producer. I don’t know if he had a specific project in mind which is why he asked but Eether way, I think it was a compliment. I hope he still likes me as an AD. Anyway, it was kind of a warm fuzzy for me.
It’s still warm weather here in So. Cal. While I’m thrilled that it’s eggnog latte time, I can’t get into the thought that Hanukkah is in 2 weeks. Oy. And I love Christmas/holiday music and my beloved XM radio started playing holiday tunes starting the first of the month and added the other 5 stations this week. They’re even doing a Hanukkah station starting on December 4. Can’t wait to see what they broadcast there. Other than Adam Sandler’s 3 versions of “The Hanukkah Song” and I’m sure some Klezmer versions of “Rock of Ages” and “S’vivon”, I can’t think of too many Hanukkah songs. I starting listening to the holiday channels this week but it’s hard to get into it when it’s 80 degrees outside.
Since it’s Thanksgiving, it’s time to take a moment and realize what I’m thankful for. I’m thankful for my amazing husband and beautiful daughter. They bring me joy and unquestioned love every single moment and they are my whole world. I’m thankful for my family - my parents, my sister and her family, and Gregg’s family. We have our wacky moments but they’re always there for me and for that I’m extremely grateful. And of course, my friends near and far. I’m blessed to have an amazing circle of friends from work, from growing up, from scrapbooking, from C’s school. I feel like I have so many best friends, all from different areas in my life. I love you all and couldn’t possibly get through the day without each and every one of you. I hope everyone has a wonderful, happy, stomach popping Thanksgiving surrounded by all those that you love.

Nothing much
Well, C was definitely feeling better and we went on our school field trip. That was a fun adventure. The kids from her old pre-school were there so that was really nice to see her old teachers and the kids. There was even celebrity spotting with Dean Cain (formerly of "Lois & Clark" and a ton more) as he was there with his kid's school. Some of the Moms in our class were going crazy. Oy. But going to the farm was fun. They picked their own vegetables. We ate most of them last night in a salad that we made that was really good. I've got to dump off the photos and I'll post a few.
C illness was pretty much done and it hit me like a rock on Thursday night. Playing the flute when a head cold hits is not my idea of fun. Nor was the 90 minute drive to get to Culver City. I totally lost my voice by Saturday and it's just on the upswing now. About 60% back and, as usual, my cold has settled into a cough that will linger. I don't know why that the past times I've gotten a cold, this has happened and I lose my voice. Annoying.
I'm working this week on "Last Laugh '07" for Comedy Central. Lewis Black, Dave Appel and DL Hughley will dazzle us with their comedy stylings reminiscing about the wacky events of 2007. It should be pretty funny. We tape that tomorrow night.
I'm going away to scrap on Friday for the weekend. Well, I'll come home Sunday morning. I'm looking forward to going but it's really bad timing when all is said and done. G leaves town on Sunday for New York for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. I'm going to have to show face at "The Next Great American Band" to pick up music lyrics. C has a birthday party Sunday. Just a lot going on. I don't really have my pictures organized. I was hoping to do some of that while sitting here at work today but I left my notebook in the car. I've got a lot to figure out so I can upload to Costco to pick up before I leave.
Sorry, very boring entry. Life has been boring. Unless you count the LA Kings 5 goals in 5:09 comeback on Saturday night exciting, which I do. I just know that that appeals to a very limited blog viewing audience.
Sick kid
Oh man, it comes on quick. Right as we were leaving ballet today, C had a cough that sounded like a seal barking. I thought she was going to throw up but luckily that wasn't it. She's feeling "icky", her words. Lovely. So needless to say, someone will be staying home from school tomorrow and perhaps going to the doctor if this cough is as bad as it sounded earlier. No real fever, no runny nose, just feeling cruddy. Of course, timing is everything. I need to cancel my golf lesson for tomorrow which is a who cares except that because of work, I won't be able to take a lesson for a few weeks. Oh well. Wednesday is pajama day at school and I'm supposed to volunteer in the class. That seems a little up in the air at the moment. And on Thursday, there's a class field trip that G and I are supposed to help drive, also up in the air. Hey, I just hope C feels better in a day or two and that the rest of us don't catch it.
The Writers Guild went on strike today. Lovely. It'll be a long, ugly process. I'd like to think they'll get their shit together and work it all out but unfortunately it's not going to happen any time soon. I won't have to worry about crossing any picket lines for another 2 weeks until I go to CBS for the Band show.
Halloween 'n stuff
One again, I suck. I think the 1 or 2 of you that are left to occasionally clicking on this sad little blog are used to it by now. I haven’t been spending that much time on the computer which I do need to do. I have over 100 emails sitting in my two main email accounts and I’m simply not motivated to sort and clear them out. I’ll get to it eventually.
I’ve been working a little bit. I worked on
“The Next Great American Band” a few weeks ago and will again in 2 more weeks. It’s “American Idol” with bands. A few of the bands are actually quite good. Too bad it’s buried on Friday nights on Fox. Only about 26 people watched the first episode. There’s one band called
Sixwire and they’re just fantastic. I fully expect them to win and I can't wait to buy their next album. The Writers Guild of America is going on strike tomorrow. It won’t shut down Hollywood just yet but they’ll do what they can. For whatever reason, lucky for me, none of the shows that I’m booked on through the end of the year will be effected since they’re non-WGA. Their last strike was in 1988, lasted for 22 weeks and I managed to work the entire strike. Go figure.
I’m still cruising along with my golf lessons. I’m really enjoying them and from what Gregg and my teacher tell me, I’m doing really well.
I went scrapping yesterday with my good friends W and Araxi.
Ginger, the hostest with the mostest, puts on the best crops. 13 hours with lots of fun prizes and great company. I got 9 pages done and the box for my Mom’s birthday gift done. That made me happy. I had a great time hanging out with W and Araxi. We’re great table mates. We giggle, chat and yet get things accomplished. I’m going away again in about 2 weeks for a scrapping weekend (even though I’ll only be there about 1.5 days) I need to pull more photos and I’ll be good to go. It was my mom’s ___th birthday today. She’d kill me if I posted the actual number so I’ll refrain. Alli and I come up with a fun idea for her which she seemed to be thrilled if not a bit overwhelmed. We gave her the same number of gift cards as her birthday.

Last Wednesday was Halloween. C finally decided she wanted to be Tinkerbell. And she was a cute one if I say so myself. For a long time she was maybe going to be Belle but then changed to Tinkerbell. On Tuesday, we went to The Commons where they had trick-or-treating at many of the stores. Can you believe that Gymboree wasn’t participating in giving out candy? What up with that??? Anyway, we met up with our friends K and A and went around them.
C and K were very cute walking around holding hands with T, who is K’s youngest sister.
Wednesday, we went TorT’ing with friends from school and wandered around C and J’s neighborhood. They live in a gated community so it was safe, fun and contained. The kids had a great time and got plenty of candy.
C only lasted about an hour of power candy collecting but that was fine. She did really well in the candy department.
The only thing we didn’t around to was carving pumpkins. G was working, we were busy, we just never did it. We’ll get to it since we want the pumpkin seeds of course. Anyway, all’s well until next year costume parade.
